Some of you may know one of our cats, Toonces, named after the Saturday Night Live character. She is the oldest of the three cats that we have and will be 16 years old next month. You would never know she was that old. She has nice, soft fur and can be quite playful. In fact her and Lena (the 3 legged cat who is 5 ½ years old) chase each around and "wrestle" on a regular basis. My mom and I have often described Toonces as the model cat. She has never bit or scratched anyone, doesn't scratch the furniture, usually is quiet, and is really laid back. We actually got Toonces after Hurricane Andrew in 1992. One of the teachers my mom was working with was involved with a group that went down to Homestead to gather up the stray animals. Toonces was one of the kittens they found and we ended up adopting her. You can tell she sustained some injuries during the storm. One of her eyes is cloudy and she didn't meow for many years.....until Clover (the very vocal cat) came into the picture in 1995. Toonces is also Isabel's favorite cat. Despite being "old" for a cat, Toonces often comes right up to Isabel and will let her "pet" her and give her kisses. Isabel's version of petting at the moment is more like multiple quick taps. We are trying to teach her to pet gently, but it is definitely still a work in progress. When Isabel sees Toonces on the patio, she squeals with delight and bangs on the glass door. She also reaches for the door handle in her attempt to let Toonces in. Only being 30 ½ inches tall, Isabel can't quite let the cats in. Isabel is now trying to say Toonces' name. It sounds more like "tsss cess", but I do think "Toonces" will officially be her first word. I also think one day they will be best buddies and Toonces will try to curl up with Isabel once she is in a bed rather than the crib. She already likes to hang out in Isabel's room as it is. Here are a few pictures of Isabel and Toonces.
This was Isabel's Birthday. You can only see part of Toonces on the left. She stayed with Isabel the whole time Isabel was opening her presents.
Isabel often is near Toonces while she is trying to get out. Toonces is VERY patient!
Here is Isabel with Toonces, but Clover is also trying to get in on the petting action.
Isabel is getting ready for bed, but had to stop and help Toonces with the scratching board.
They are just good buddies! It is so cute.

Toonces and Isabel - two of my favorite girls looking out for each other. I love it!!
How SWEET! I'm a sucker for a sweet kitty, and then throw in Isabel, and it's almost too much to handle! :)I hope Charles takes to Peanut that well. He's been playing king of the mountain lately on the boxes containing our wood laminate!
wow, it sure is great to see your other babies in these pics. this reminded me to let you know that we lost zoe a couple months back. she just left home one day and never came back. my dad looked high and low for her, but she was no where to be found. we imagine she just went off to find a nice place to "rest". i'm glad that clover is still on the go (and toonces too!). isabel sure is growing fast. next thing you know, she'll be ready to start 1st grade! :-)
